Warhammer 40K League Reno - (2024)

Schedule & Deadlines
  • League sign ups: closes August 31st
  • List submission: submit by midnight August 31st
  • Pod placement RTT: TBD
  • Pod pairings and league start: September 1st
Rules Updates

If a Datalaste, emergency ban, FAQ or any other rules change happens during the league, the LOs will decide on accepting lists of re-submissions, on a faction-by-faction basis.

Prize Support

Battle Prize: The winner, and second place of each Pod will receive a prize. (Splitting TBD)

Scheduling Your Games

You will be paired against each of the remaining 5 players from your pod, who you are expected to play over the course of the league. You can play your opponents in any order you wish. However, the League recommends trying to play one match a week, which will give you enough time to play all 5 opponents plus have any additional "make-up" week. You can play your games anywhere you would like as long as your opponent agrees. There is no "official" store location for the League.

The League recommends using the Green Banner League Discord league channels for setting up matches. Link: https://discord.gg/WrvbfHYRQp

Tournament Challenges: You and your opponent can arrange having any tournament game (RTT, GT, Major, etc) counted as your league game with two conditions, first you must both agree before the game, and second, your armies must be the same faction as registered in the league. Note that this is the only exception to the locked lists.

Playing and Reporting Your Games

You and your opponent must play the mission assigned to you for that match, according to the current GT mission package.

The missions can be found at https://www.warhammer-community.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/MxYWfHN4INbOH6l1.pdf

The League Organizers encourage the use of a chess clock. Typically, games should be completed within 2.5-3 hours.

Once you've played a particular opponent, the winner of the match is responsible for posting the results using the game submission form bit.ly/3vd0XtR and alternatively, the San Diego 40k discord league channel so that the scores can be recorded by the League Organizers. You must report who you played and the total points each scored for the game.

Standings in the League are done the same way as a standard ITC Swiss tournament, i.e., the winner of each match gets 1,000 points plus their battle points. The loser gets 0 points plus their battle points. In the event of a tie, both players get 500 points plus their battle points. For example, if Daniel beats Manuel 83 to 41, then Daniel would get 1083 points and Manuel would get 41.

The players in each pod are ranked based on their League Points. There are no finals at the end of a league; your ranking is determined purely by your performance in your 5 scheduled games.

In the event of a concession due to scheduling conflicts, a score should NOT be submitted.

Proxies and Unpainted Models

Proxies are accepted given that they fit the general size of the current version of the official model, and that the basing is the same as the current official model.

Old versions of official models are accepted as long as they are a similar size as the current model. For example, an old Be'Lakor model could be used as a Daemon Prince proxy but not as a Be'lakor model

There is no painting requirement for the League.

Unreleased models and codexes are not accepted. An official codex or model release is the Saturday after the pre-orders start. This means that boxset codexes pre-date releases.

Scheduling Problems - Ringer Games

The League expects you and your opponent to find a mutually agreeable time and place to play your game. If you are unable to schedule a game with your opponent, please contact the League Organizers.

The League Organizer has the discretion to allow you and/or your opponent to play "ringer" opponents during the last two weeks of the league. Ringer games are to be used scarcely after an opponent is completely sure they are unable to play a game within the remaining league time.

You are responsible for finding out who your "ringer" opponent will be, making every effort to make sure it is someone of comparable skill and experience to the player you were scheduled to play. The "ringer" match with an opponent from a pod above or below will award full points; however, ringer games played against players of two pods lower award only 750 points. Ringers can only be played among the same league players. The League Organizers also have the option of giving you and/or your opponent a loss for the missed game.

Finally, make sure to finish your games ten minutes before the store closes! All games will have a policy of dice down ten minutes before closing the store. Use this remaining time to figure out final score from the board state, and make sure to leave the store on time.

Dropping, Probation, & Suspension

This League is premised on the idea that you will play all 5 of your scheduled games. Players must make good-faith efforts to make that goal a reality. However, the League Organizers understand that life can get in the way. If you find that your schedule will not permit you enough time to play in the current league and finish all your games, please let the League Organizers know immediately. You can either be dropped from the league, or the League Organizers can notify the affected players to find ringer matches to complete some or all of your remaining games so that your opponents are not left hanging.

The League Organizers do not enjoy punishing players. However, some actions may result in punishment to discourage behavior that reduces the enjoyment of the other players in the League.

In that regard, the League Organizers can place a player on probation for a league season for various reasons (all of which are left to the sole discretion of the League Organizer). The intent of probation is to warn a player that his conduct is unacceptable and has diminished another player(s) experience with the League. Examples of behavior that will earn probation include not playing at least three of your scheduled games, not showing up for a scheduled game, disrespecting your opponent, or engaging in other unsportsmanlike conduct.

Players who do not play at least 4 of their 5 games will be on probation for the next league; this includes dropping out of the league before finishing 4 of your 5 games.

Pods who fail to play 10% of their scheduled games will not be eligible for prizes that season.

Players on probation for a league will not be eligible for prize support in that league (and the league they earned the probation).

Suspension is essentially the next level after probation. If you fail to play any of your games in a particular league, you will not be eligible to play in the next league.

Players who do not play at least 4 games, or who drop before playing 4 games, will be on suspension for the following league.

If you were on probation for a league and earn another probation in that league, you will be suspended from the following league.

Rule Disputes

For the league, you and your opponent are encouraged to resolve rule disputes among yourselves. In the event that you and your opponent cannot agree, please contact the league organizers for a ruling using the San Diego 40k League discord league channels. However, timing is important, so as a general rule, we don't recommend allowing takebacks after two phases from the play have elated. For example, a player that forgot to move a unit might do it during his or her shooting phase, but not during the charge phase (more than two phases have passed at this point).

Terrain Guidelines

Every effort should be made to utilize fixed terrain layouts. If fixed terrain is not accessible, players are encouraged to replicate fixed-style terrain to the best of their ability. This standardization aims to maintain a consistent level of play and promote games that closely resemble competitive tournament environments. Player placed is permitted so long as both players agree and as a last resort.

- The terrain traits are the same that the core rulebook details for each piece.

- Alternatively, the layouts suggested by GW in their tournament companion document can be used as well.

Ranked Reporting

This League's results won't be reported and won't count for any rankings, but will carry over each league and will impact what pods you are placed in.

Disclosure

This league's format has been adopted from The Heat League, originally reported in goonhammer.com
