One ‘Star Wars’ Droid Has Killed Over 50,000 Characters

Chopper is a relatively unassuming looking astromech droid in the Star Wars universe — fans first met him in the animated series Star Wars Rebels, in which the occasionally grumpy droid loyally served the Ghost ship crew, including fan-favorite characters like Ghost pilot Hera Syndulla (Vanessa Marshall), Jedi Kanan Jarrus (Freddie Prinze, Jr.), and Padawan Ezra Bridger (Taylor Gray).

Now, joining cameos by characters like Captain Rex (Dee Bradley Baker), Rebels character Chopper has returned to the Star Wars story in Dave Filoni’s latest effort, Star Wars: The Bad Batch. The Star Wars: The Clone Wars spinoff series revolves around clone trooper squad Clone Force 99 — although Episode 11 (“Devil’s Deal”) only features Hunter, Wrecker, Tech, Echo, and female first-generation Jango Fett clone, Omega, in a single scene.
One of their mercenary missions for Cid (Rhea Perlman) has them delivering arms to Gobi Glie (Corey Burton) in the very earliest days of the Rebellion — but, we jump ahead of ourselves.

Instead of seeing the elite squad of clone troopers when the episode opens, we find ourselves on Ryoloth — homeworld of the Twi’Lek species, including a young Hera Syndulla. Since The Bad Batch takes place nearly three decades prior to Rebels, we see a much different version of Syndulla than we are used to, but her no-nonsense, take-charge attitude remains.

As it turns out, though, as formidable as Hera Syndulla becomes, Chopper is actually the character the Galactic Empire should fear. Per a detailed assessment of the little droid’s kill count, he has been responsible for the deaths of over 50,000 characters in the Star Wars franchise!

The assessment breaks down Chopper’s, er, murderous tendencies as follows:
In “the machine in the Ghost” Chopper blows up a TIE-Fighter, so that’s 1 kill.
In the season 1 premiere he blew up three more TIE-Fighters, so that’s 4 kills total.
In episode 4 Chopper attempted to murder Ezra, but he was unsuccessful.
In episode 5 he blew up the leg of an AT-DP, that likely only resulted in non fatal injuries though.
In episode 11 he committed cold blooded murder against another Astromech, then shoved its lifeless carcass into the sewer.
In episode 13 he opened an airlock, causing 4 Stormtroopers to suffer a gruesome death in the vacuum of space. So now that’s 8 kills total.
In the same episode he also pushed a completely innocent Astromech out of the cargo hold, completely unprovoked. Likely causing it to aimlessly wander the Lothal plains until running out of power.
In season 2 episode 8 he turned the gravity off, then on again, causing three Imperials to plummet to their deaths. He also tried to kill Ezra, but was unsuccessful once again.
In the same episode he also sabotaged the Indictor, causing it to explode and take two Imperial Cruisers down with it. The Indictor seemed roughly the same size as an Imperial I-Class Star Destroyer, according to the Wiki those have over 37,000 crewmembers, and an additional 9,700 Stormtroopers. Which makes a total of just under 47,000 people.
Add the crew of the two Imperial Light Cruisers, and I’d say that’s at least 50,000 kills.
So that’s 50,008 kills total.
In season 2 episode 9 he suggested that they blew up a force sensitive baby, but Zeb wouldn’t let him go through with it.
In season 2 episode 16 Chopper once again murders a fellow Astromech, but at least this time he doesn’t desecrate its corpse.
In season 2 episode 18 Chopper detached a cargo hold containing at least 7 Stormtroopers, leaving them stranded in space. Assuming that they weren’t rescued, that gives him a total of 50,015 kills.
In the season 3 premiere, Chopper shot down a Mining Guild Tie-Fighter, giving him a total of 50,016 kills. He also destroyed another droid.
In season 3 episode 4 he blows up Hera’s home, my guess is that he killed at least two dozen Stormtroopers, and possibly some Twi’leks in the kitchen.

This means that Chopper has the second most known kills of any Star Wars character associated with the Rebellion. Seemingly, only Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) — whose kill count is estimated to be around 370,000 — has more.
Chopper was the resident droid of the Ghost, assisting the crew in everything from ship maintenance to combat — even though he didn’t always want to. After many years of repairs and patch jobs, Chopper had a beat-up, worn look that matched his sometimes cranky personality. Aesthetics aside, he was an essential part of this small rebel team, and ultimately, was loyal and heroic.
