Find Your Briggs and Stratton Model Number

The model numbers are always etched or stamped into a metal part, so they cannot be erased or worn off. Most mowers for example, have the numbers embossed on a metal plate extending over the top of the muffler.

Use SAE 30 in warmer temperatures of 40° F and higher (5° C and higher) Use SAE 10W-30 for a varying temperature range of 0 to 100° F (-18 to 38° C), this grade of oil improves cold weather starting, but may increase oil consumption at 80° F(27° C) or higher.

The Model, Type and Code numbers, stamped directly into the engine, are used to identify our engines. Engines used in lawn mower applications usually have the model numbers stamped directly into the blower housing, muffler heat shield, or a few inches above the spark plug.

Oil capacity is typically 48oz or 64 oz*. Change engine oil every 100 hours or annually, which ever comes first.

Typically, engines need five to eight quarts of oil. However, the size of your engine can impact how much oil is required. For example, a 4-cylinder oil engine may require around five quarts of oil, whereas a 6-cylinder oil needs six quarts.
